Seekonk

Elliott Gault

Troop number and community:
Troop 1, Seekonk

Month and year you earned your eagle:
October 2009

Describe your Eagle project:
For my Eagle Scout project I worked with the East Providence Conservation Commission on restoring the Boyden Heights Conservation Area. I cleaned up the parking lot and gardens, and I also restored the original trail entryway that had been overgrown and discarded. Last month for my work on the conservation area I was awarded the Community Service Award by the East Providence Conservation Commission.

What are some highlights of your Scouting experience?
Scouting has taken me on many journeys, both near and far, from rafting down the Saco River in Maine, to hiking New England’s tallest peak, Mount Washington. Recently, I went to Philmont Scout Ranch to participate in National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience at Philmont training. And this summer as SPL of Jamboree Troop 128, I will be leading a group of Scouts at the 2010 National Jamboree.

Explain why Scouting has been important to you and why it's still important to our community and nation after 100 years:
Scouting has taught me how to be a productive and caring citizen. It has taught me to be a servant leader, putting others before myself. It’s put me in situations where I have been challenged in order to make myself better. Scouting is the foundation for perfect citizens who do their duty to God and their country. The influence that Scouting has had on our country has been so immense that it is hard to express in so few words. Scouting has and always will be part of the fabric that makes this nation so great.
