What are some highlights of your Scouting experience?
Even as a Cub Scout, I've always enjoyed camping. As a Boy Scout I have been to Yawgoog every year for the last seven. This year I got to work there at the 407 (Main Trading Post) and intend to work there again this year, having just returned from the alumni reunion. I also enjoyed Sea Base, which I got to attend in 2007. Mostly I enjoy being with my best friends that I know will be my friends for a very long time. This year I am a Junior Assistant Scout Master, and enjoy leading the younger kids a lot.
Explain why Scouting has been important to you and why it's still important to our community and nation after 100 years:
The Boy Scouts of America creates better citizens and leaders. This is a proven fact and this is a decade that really could have used them. When I meet a group of kids my age, I usually can tell former Scouts from non Scouts. Scouts are the ones that look you in the eye, shake your hand and show respect, even if I am a stranger to them. These are people that I trust, and I hope that non-Scouts can look to us, Boy Scouts, as the keepers of our code. We need to lead by example and show what is best in human nature. We need to be role models, particularly to boys, to help them become better men, even if they never had the chance to be a Boy Scout.
