East Greenwich

Bryce MacAndrew

Troop number and community:
Troop 2, East Greenwich

Month and year you earned your eagle:
August 2009

Describe your Eagle project:
My Eagle Project was to collect model kits and send them to the wounded soldiers at Brooke Army Medical Center in Texas. I collected 900 kits along with games and activity books. Arpin Van Lines generously brought these to Texas. These kits are used in the soldiers’ rehabilitation and help to pass the time while they are recovering. While this project took a long time, it was well worth it.

What are some highlights of your Scouting experience?
Every year our troop helps to flag the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Memorial Day Weekend. This is one of the biggest highlights. We have gone whitewater rafting, which was great. Helping younger Scouts to advance, teaching Scout skills and the friends that I have made are all important highlights.

Explain why Scouting has been important to you and why it's still important to our community and nation after 100 years:
Scouting is important to me because of the many things that I have learned to do. It is important also because of the people that I have been able to help through Scouting for Food, Eagle Projects, and giving back to my community. I never would have had the chance to help our wounded soldiers, work in a soup kitchen or help the homeless if it were not for Boy Scouts. I am offered many chances to give back some of what has been given to me through Scouts. Our nation is a better nation due to the Boy Scouts of America.

Troop number and community:
Troop 1, East Greenwich

Month and year you earned your eagle:
December 2007

Describe your Eagle project:
I restored two storage sheds for the local fire station. I also tested equipment and disposed of all broken gear.

What are some highlights of your Scouting experience?
I attended Philmont in the summer of 2007. I attended Allagash High Adventure in the summer of 2006, and attended Florida Sea Base as an adult in the spring of 2008.

Explain why Scouting has been important to you and why it's still important to our community and nation after 100 years:
It taught me all of the leadership skills that I use daily. It also taught me self discipline and how I can achieve goals in life. I plan on using everything I was taught when I join the United States Coast Guard in October of 2010.
