March 2008

Describe your Eagle project:
Video-recorded eleven interviews with war veterans from wars going back as far as WWII. Sent the recordings to the Library of Congress as part of the "Veterans History Project."

What are some highlights of your Scouting experience?
Cub Scout day camp at Aquapaug, earning the Ad Altare Dei religious award, my first summer stay at Camp Yawgoog, my Eagle Court of Honor. Mostly, the experiences that make me love Scouting are the mundane, little things that don't leave astounding memories.

Explain why Scouting has been important to you and why it's still important to our community and nation after 100 years:
Scouting introduced me to experiences that I would have not had otherwise. It was the engine that brought me into the outdoors and to campouts in the woods; it taught me how to lead and how to superintend boys; it allowed me to meet so many wonderful people and forge wonderful friendships. Through it I did so many great things that are now etched into my memory and will forever remain there. It's bittersweet to think about it. Scouting is important in the community because: It is religiously-aware, something that is direly needed in this day and age. It fosters proper emotional development and encourages proper physical growth. It give boys a chance to interact with other boys and men, without having to deal with the "girl factor." It encourages personal betterment and self-discipline.

Troop 1, Kingston

Month and year you earned your eagle:
October 2009

Describe your Eagle project:
I organized a collection of hygiene supplies in various places of my community to send to an orphanage of mentally and physically disabled children in Managua, Nicaragua.

What are some highlights of your Scouting experience?
In the summer of 2008 I went on a High Adventure 50 mile hike at the HH (Double H) Ranch in New Mexico. I have been to Martha's Vineyard and Block Island for bike trips with my troop. I am preparing to go on two more High Adventure trips this year. I am going to the Dominican Republic on a High Adventure International Scouting trip in February 2010. I am also going on a High Adventure 30 mile hike and 24 mile canoe trek in the Bigelow Range, in Maine, in July 2010.

Explain why Scouting has been important to you and why it's still important to our community and nation after 100 years:
Scouting has been important to me because it has taught me lessons that no school, university, or other organization ever will. It has taught me skills that I will continue to use all throughout my life. It is important to our community because it raises young boys into fine gentlemen and adults who can take on the greatest challenges life has to offer. It is important to our nation because our nation needs leaders. Our nation always has and always will need leaders of the people. Many of today's leaders were Boy Scouts, and they have used skills from their Scouting to get to where they are today.
